Meet the Economic Development Staff

Kelly Robertson-Slagle

Kelly Robertson-Slagle, director of economic development, holds a B.S. degree in marketing from the University of Maryland. She was appointed director in July 2017.  Ms. Robertson-Slagle has over 25 years of experience in government relations, business development, financial analysis, marketing, grant writing, program management, event planning and direct technical business assistance. In addition, Ms. Robertson-Slagle has extensive experience in working with new and expanding businesses and cultivating relationships between counties and the business community, economic development agencies, and state and regional agencies.

She previously served as Calvert County’s business retention specialist. Prior to joining the department, Ms. Robertson-Slagle served as director of the Maryland Small Business Development Center (SBDC) where she provided leadership in planning, coordinating and overseeing the development, delivery and reporting of all professional programs, activities and services for the Southern Maryland region. She also served as business development manager for the Calvert County Department of Economic Development, director of government/member relations with the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland and business development specialist with the Maryland Department of Business & Economic Development where she worked directly with local jurisdictions on business retention and expansion projects. She is a 2010 graduate of Leadership Southern Maryland, and member of the Maryland Economic Development Association, the International Economic Development Council and Northeastern Economic Developers Association. She has served on boards of directors for the Patuxent Partnership, Southern Maryland Workforce Investment Board and Leadership Southern Maryland.

Danita Boonchaisri

Danita Boonchaisri, business development specialist, holds a B.S. in communications and an M.S. in business management from University of Maryland University College. She has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of marketing and communications and over 15 years of experience in economic development. Ms. Boonchaisri is responsible for managing the Calvert County Industrial Park and Patuxent Business Park. She is a business ombudsman for the county, a commercial site plan monitor on behalf of the business community and administrator of the Calvert Economic Development Loan Fund (CEDLF). Prior to joining the Department of Economic Development, she served as director of the Small Business Development Center, Southern Region, and the Entrepreneur and Leadership Center at the College of Southern Maryland. She also worked as a senior administrator and publication manager at the American Physical Society. 

She is a member of the Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) and the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). She is also a 2008 graduate of Leadership Maryland.

Katie Brittain

Katie Brittain, tourism specialist, is a lifelong resident of Calvert County, has more than seven years of tourism experience and attended the College of Southern Maryland. She is responsible for development and marketing of the county’s dynamic tourism program and structuring programs and services to attract visitors to Calvert County.
Brittain is a member of the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum Advisory Board, Maryland Tourism Council, Mid-Atlantic Tourism Public Relations Alliance, Maryland Motor Coach Association, Pennsylvania Bus Association, Southern Maryland Heritage Area Consortium Board, Solomons Plein Air Festival Committee and the Virginia Bus Association.

Jennifer Hutchins-Pettko

Agricultural Development Specialist Jennifer Hutchins-Pettko holds a B.S. in business administration from Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania. She was the fifth generation to live on her family’s tobacco farm in Calvert County. As part of a farming family, she has strong ties to and a great respect for the members of the agricultural community.

Prior to joining the Department of Economic Development, Jennifer worked in her family’s business, in various positions throughout Calvert County Government and as an advertising specialist for Acme Markets.

Jennifer sits on the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission board and on the Southern Maryland Meats steering committee. 

Her position enables her to interact with, and advocate for, Southern Maryland’s agricultural community as well as collaborate with organizations and citizens to ensure that agriculture continues to thrive in Calvert County.
